FirmwareRun wired CarPlay on Car Thing
PlayThing installs an Android 9 system configured for wired Apple CarPlay on Car Thing. The iPhone connects through a powered USB hub, while Bluetooth can send audio to the car stereo; the image also includes a local music player and an app launcher.
A Mac or Linux computer is needed for installation, then the device boots without a computer. This is beta software with reported CarPlay disconnections, delayed calls and no echo cancellation; it has been tested on two Car Things with the ST7701S panel, while the Holitech panel remains untested.
