Terms of Use
Effective: October 27, 2026
1. The service and this agreement
Just Cobuild, Co. operates co.build ("co.build," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms cover the directory, community features, and content we provide through co.build.
You agree to these Terms when you select Continue with GitHub or Email me a link after being shown our agreement notice and a link to these Terms, or take another action expressly identified as agreement. Publishing a new version does not by itself establish your agreement or change an existing dispute. If you do not agree, do not use features that require agreement.
Our Privacy Policy explains how personal information is handled. It is a notice, not consent to every use of information or a waiver of privacy rights.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18, of legal age to enter this agreement where you live, and legally able to use the service. If you act for an organization, you must have authority to bind it.
Account features support GitHub sign-in and sign-in through a link sent to your email address. Use accounts and email addresses you are authorized to use, keep your account information accurate, and protect your GitHub access, email inbox, sign-in links, and co.build session. You are responsible for activity you authorize, not automatically for every unauthorized act involving your account. Report suspected compromise to dev@co.build. GitHub and your email provider have their own terms for their services.
You can authorize a connected app, including a coding agent, to access account information or act for you through our API. Review the permissions shown before allowing access. Depending on those permissions, the app can receive profile or email information, post comments and results, submit requests, or vote and watch on your behalf. Contributions made through an app are subject to the same Terms as contributions made on the site. An app allowed to stay connected can continue using its granted access without a new sign-in each time.
You can withdraw an app's access from Connected apps. Disconnecting stops it from acting for you through our API until you authorize it again; it does not undo earlier actions or delete information the app already received. The app provider's terms and privacy practices apply to its own services. Authorizing an app does not make its provider our agent or mean we endorse it.
3. What co.build provides
co.build catalogs third-party device modification projects, including open-source software and firmware, and provides community discussion, result reports, votes, watches, requests, and project submissions. We also author or curate descriptions, recipes, instructions, and prompts that you can copy into a coding agent or other tool you choose. Access to co.build is currently free. Third-party projects, services, and tools may have their own charges.
We provide editorial content alongside third-party projects and community posts. We do not operate or maintain a third-party project merely because we list it, and a listing does not make its developer our agent.
Listings, votes, reported results, popularity, review, and license labels do not certify safety, accuracy, legal permission, compatibility, or continued support. Results can differ by device, firmware, configuration, and later changes. Requests, watches, votes, and submissions do not oblige anyone to build, publish, update, notify you about, or support a project.
4. Device changes and legal permission
Device modification and software installation can cause:
- Permanent device damage, loss of access, or loss, corruption, or disclosure of data.
- Security vulnerabilities, unexpected network activity, or access by other people or services.
- Loss of compatibility, updates, subscriptions, manufacturer services, or support.
- Injury or property damage, particularly with batteries, vehicles, locks, medical devices, and other safety-related functions.
- Disputes over software licenses, service agreements, intellectual property, or access restrictions.
Evaluate the actual project and device before proceeding. Back up important data, check compatibility and permissions, and obtain qualified assistance when needed. Do not rely on a listing or prompt as a professional safety assessment, medical advice, or legal advice.
Independent repair or third-party parts do not automatically eliminate statutory warranty rights. A warranty may exclude damage caused by a modification or repair where the law permits. Check the applicable warranty and the rights available where you live.
Owning hardware or finding open-source code does not by itself authorize access to software or paid services, circumvention of technical controls, or distribution of code or circumvention tools. Repair, interoperability, accessibility, and security-research exceptions have specific limits. Permission to perform an activity does not necessarily permit providing tools or services for it. Use projects only on devices, accounts, networks, and data you own or are authorized to access, and comply with applicable law and binding license and service terms.
5. AI research and instructions for your tools
We can use AI-assisted research to prepare or refresh content. Research may be deferred or handled by administrators; online research can produce drafts for review. AI output, source material, and human editing can all be wrong, incomplete, outdated, or misleading. Review does not establish that a project or instruction has been tested or certified.
Copying a setup prompt does not itself run it. If you give it to an agent, that tool may inspect files, execute commands, install software, contact external services, incur third-party charges, or change a device or account, depending on its capabilities and permissions. We do not control the agent or environment you choose.
Read the prompt and the agent's proposed actions. Limit permissions, protect credentials, verify downloads and commands, and separately approve consequential actions. Do not assume a prompt will ask for confirmation or avoid every destructive step. Your tool provider's terms, privacy practices, and charges apply to its processing. These responsibilities do not exclude liability or rights that applicable law does not allow us to exclude.
6. Projects, licenses, and our content
Third-party projects and websites have their own licenses, terms, and privacy practices. Follow the actual project's applicable license, including attribution and redistribution requirements; a label on co.build is not a substitute for that license. A submission or link does not give us or you ownership of someone else's project.
For content we own, and unless a separate license says otherwise, we permit you to access it and to copy and adapt our instructions and setup prompts for lawful personal or internal organizational use, including use in your chosen coding agent. This permission does not grant trademark rights, rights in third-party material, or a right to resell or republish the directory as your own. It does not restrict rights granted by an applicable open-source license or by law. Other rights in our content are reserved.
References to device makers, projects, and brands identify them; they do not by themselves indicate affiliation, sponsorship, or endorsement. Respective owners retain their trademarks and other rights.
7. Your contributions
You keep the rights you hold in comments, replies, result reports, requests, submissions, uploaded photos and their descriptions, and other material you provide. Submit only material you have the right to provide, and do not disclose confidential information or another person's private information without authority. You do not promise ownership of an entire project merely by submitting its public repository link.
You grant us a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, format, edit, summarize, and use your contributions as needed to operate, secure, moderate, research, and maintain co.build. This includes publishing material you post publicly and preparing and publishing directory entries based on relevant project or device information in requests and submissions. It does not authorize publishing private account records or an entire private request simply because you submitted it.
We may allow providers to exercise these rights for those purposes, including the research processing described in the Privacy Policy. A successor operating co.build may receive the same limited rights. This grant does not transfer ownership, change a project's license, waive nonwaivable moral rights, or grant a separate right to sell your contributions or train general-purpose AI models.
The license for a contribution ends when it is removed from the service, except for copies reasonably needed for legal obligations, security, dispute handling, or backup recovery, subject to applicable law and the Privacy Policy. If a contribution has already been lawfully incorporated into a published directory entry or editorial summary, the license continues only as needed to maintain that work, subject to privacy, erasure, and other legal removal requirements. This does not authorize retaining unnecessary personal information, publishing private account records, or new unrelated uses. Ending an account does not itself remove every contribution. Removal does not undo prior lawful uses, independently licensed material, or copies others lawfully obtained.
8. Conduct rules
Do not:
- Infringe intellectual-property, privacy, publicity, or other rights, or distribute material you lack permission to share.
- Provide malware, stolen credentials, pirated material, or instructions, tools, or services for unlawful circumvention or unauthorized access.
- Post passwords, tokens, private device records, unnecessary medical information, or someone else's confidential information.
- Harass, threaten, impersonate, or publish knowingly false or misleading claims about a person, project, affiliation, or result.
- Manipulate votes, submit deceptive reports, spam, or evade an account restriction.
- Interfere with co.build, defeat its access controls, exploit vulnerabilities without authorization, or collect personal information for unlawful purposes.
These rules preserve lawful repair, interoperability, security research, criticism, and other legally protected activity. They do not supply permission that another law or rights holder requires.
9. Moderation and other reports
We may investigate, decline, restrict, correct, or remove content or listings, or restrict an account, for a violation of these Terms, unlawful activity, a credible safety or security concern, a rights complaint, or the operation of the service. We do not promise to discover or review every problem.
Report a concern or challenge a moderation decision at dev@co.build. Identify the exact location, explain the concern or mistake, and provide relevant supporting information. Please avoid unnecessary personal information. Where applicable law requires notice, reasons, an opportunity to challenge a decision, or another procedure, those requirements apply. Immediate action may be necessary before notice for urgent or legally restricted matters.
10. Copyright and other rights complaints
For a copyright report, contact dev@co.build and include:
- Your physical or electronic signature and contact details, including an address, telephone number, and email address if available.
- The copyrighted work, or a representative list of works, you claim is infringed.
- The specific material or link on co.build and enough information to locate it.
- A statement that you believe in good faith that the disputed use is not authorized by the owner, its agent, or law.
- A statement that the report is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act for the owner of the allegedly infringed exclusive right.
We review sufficiently detailed copyright reports and act expeditiously to remove or disable access to material where appropriate under applicable law. We may seek clarification and share the report with the affected contributor or relevant advisers. Do not send a knowingly false claim. For trademark, privacy, impersonation, safety, or circumvention concerns, identify the right or risk, the affected material, and the basis of your concern; the copyright procedure does not decide every other kind of complaint.
We review claims about our own editorial content and directory links according to the activity involved and applicable law. Content we author or develop is not automatically material stored at a contributor's direction.
If your material is removed for alleged copyright infringement, you may explain a mistake or, where the U.S. statutory procedure applies, submit a counter-notice. A statutory counter-notice must include your signature; your name, address, and telephone number; the material and its former location; and a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed because of mistake or misidentification. It must also consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address or, if you are outside the United States, a district where the service provider may be found, and accept service from the complainant or its agent.
Where the U.S. statutory procedure applies to material stored at a contributor's direction, we will take reasonable steps promptly to notify the contributor of removal or disabled access. On receiving a compliant counter-notice, we will promptly send it to the complainant, including required contact information, and notify the complainant of intended restoration in 10 business days. We will restore access no earlier than 10 and no later than 14 business days after receipt, unless the agent designated for that procedure first receives notice that the complainant has filed an action seeking a court order restraining the contributor's alleged infringement concerning that material. Independent lawful grounds may still justify a restriction. Our policy is to terminate accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.
11. Disclaimers
To the extent permitted by law, co.build and its content, including our instructions and prompts, are provided as is and as available, without express or implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, or noninfringement.
We do not guarantee accuracy, compatibility, uninterrupted access, security, error correction, ongoing maintenance, or a particular outcome. We do not warrant a third-party project or service. These statements do not override an express obligation we separately undertake or any warranty or protection that the law does not allow us to exclude.
12. Limits on liability and preserved rights
To the extent permitted by law, we and our directors, officers, employees, and agents acting in connection with co.build are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or lost profits or business opportunities, arising from co.build or these Terms. To that same extent, the combined aggregate monetary liability of us and those persons to you for claims arising from co.build or these Terms is limited to US$100. These limits apply regardless of the legal theory and whether the possibility of loss was disclosed.
Neither these limits nor any other provision excludes or limits liability for fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or liability that applicable law does not allow to be excluded or limited. Nonwaivable consumer rights, privacy rights, and remedies remain available. For consumers, these protections include any applicable right to services supplied with reasonable care and skill, and any applicable remedy for damage to a device or other digital content caused by digital content we supply. If a restriction is prohibited for your claim, it does not apply to that claim to the extent of the prohibition.
13. Responsibility for third-party claims
To the extent permitted by law, you will indemnify the operator and its directors, officers, employees, and agents against third-party claims and reasonable resulting losses and legal costs to the extent caused by your infringing contributions, unlawful use of co.build, or material breach of these Terms. This does not cover losses caused by our own breach, negligence, or misconduct, or make you responsible for our independent editorial changes.
We must promptly notify you of a covered claim; delayed notice reduces your obligation to the extent it materially prejudices the defense. You may control the defense with reasonably acceptable counsel, and we may participate at our own expense. We will reasonably cooperate at your reasonable expense. If you do not undertake a covered defense after reasonable notice, we may defend and seek reasonable covered costs, subject to your right to dispute coverage.
Neither party may settle a claim in a way that admits the other's fault, imposes a nonfinancial obligation on the other, or fails to release the other from the covered claim without that party's consent. We will not agree to an amount payable by you without your consent, which must not be unreasonably withheld for a reasonable settlement of a covered claim. This section does not restrict mandatory protections against unfair consumer terms.
14. Ending access and changing the service
You may stop using co.build at any time. Use available controls to remove your comments or votes, and contact dev@co.build for account or other deletion requests.
We may suspend or end access for the reasons in section 9, including repeat infringement, or discontinue all or part of the service. We will provide notice where required by law and otherwise where reasonably practicable. Urgent protective action may occur before notice where the law permits. Legal rights to challenge a decision remain available.
Termination does not automatically erase contributions or independent copies of information. The Privacy Policy explains the differences. Provisions governing accrued claims, permitted retained content, liability, third-party claims, and disputes survive only to the extent needed for their purpose and permitted by law.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may propose changes and publish a revised version with its actual effective date. Material changes will receive reasonable advance notice through an appropriate service notice or other available channel, except where a legal requirement or urgent protective need requires a shorter period. We will explain the change and its timing.
Changes apply prospectively. Where agreement is required, we will obtain it before treating the changed terms as binding. A new version does not retroactively change an existing dispute or expand rights in previously submitted content without a valid legal basis and any required agreement. If you decline a required change, you may stop using the affected features; existing rights and obligations are not silently rewritten.
16. Governing law and courts
Subject to the mandatory protections below, Delaware law governs these Terms without applying its conflict-of-law rules, and the parties agree that disputes arising from these Terms or co.build will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Delaware.
If mandatory consumer law gives you protection under another jurisdiction's laws or the right to bring a claim in another competent court, those protections and rights remain. These Terms do not require arbitration, waive a class or representative proceeding, or shorten a statutory period for bringing a claim.
17. Other provisions
If a provision cannot be enforced, the remaining provisions continue to the extent permitted by law. A failure to enforce a provision once is not a waiver. These Terms do not create a partnership, employment, or agency relationship with a user or project developer.
We may transfer this agreement with a merger, reorganization, or transfer of co.build if the successor assumes our obligations and the transfer does not reduce your mandatory rights. This does not authorize a new use of personal information inconsistent with applicable law or the Privacy Policy. Other assignments require the affected party's agreement unless applicable law provides otherwise.
