FirmwareYour Car Thing works again
Nocturne is replacement firmware for the Spotify Car Thing, which Spotify stopped supporting in December 2024. You flash it onto the device from a computer over USB.
To play music it reaches Spotify through your phone over Bluetooth or through a Wi-Fi bridge on a Raspberry Pi or Windows PC. The README says the phone app needs Nocturne Lifetime ($9.99 once) or Nocturne+ ($1.99 a month), while the Mac companion doesn't need a plan.
The README warns that flashing custom firmware carries a small risk of bricking the device. Windows needs the Terbium driver, and an internet connection is required for Spotify.
