Replace Alexa with Home Assistant on older Echos
Echo Dot Assist sends an unlocked Echo's microphone audio to Home Assistant, a home automation server you run, through local voice and device-control protocols. It keeps Amazon's local microphone processing and wake detector, while a replacement daemon supplies voice, buttons, lights and audio playback.
The documented setup has been tested on one unit of each listed model and requires a specific Fire OS build. Rooting some models needs soldered USB access, and speech stays on your network only when you choose a local Home Assistant pipeline.
