OVMS reads a supported car through an OVMS module and its vehicle cable, then shows metrics in its web interface and phone apps. It can record trips and CAN data, monitor individual EV battery cells where the vehicle module supports them, and publish metrics to your own MQTT server.
You need the OVMS hardware, the correct vehicle cable and a supported vehicle module. Generic OBD-II mode is limited to CAN and is not widely tested; native vehicle modules vary substantially. Some cars need a harness connection or extra wiring, and some modules can also send control commands.
