RAW, manual controls and scripts on PowerShots
CHDK (Canon Hack Development Kit) loads from the SD card on supported PowerShot and IXUS/ELPH compacts and runs alongside Canon's own firmware, which stays in place. The CHDK wiki describes it as temporary, with no permanent changes made to the camera. It adds RAW and DNG capture, manual exposure controls, bracketing, Lua and uBASIC scripting and on-screen overlays. It reads no data from a Canon account.
Support depends on the exact camera and Canon firmware, such as S95 1.00H. Check the official autobuild's model list. EOS M3 and M10 builds are beta or alpha; EOS DSLR and R-series cameras are not listed.
You check your model and firmware, download the matching build and prepare the SD card. The CHDK wiki marks it "Experimental - No warranty" and points to the risks in its FAQ. The source lives in Assembla Subversion; GitHub copies of it are unofficial.
