Boot Linux on a Chromebook without flashing firmware
Submarine is a bootloader for ChromeOS's own Depthcharge bootloader. It lives in a small partition of 16 MB on x86 and 64 MB on ARM and uses kexec to start a full Linux distribution, so the stock firmware isn't modified. FyraLabs publishes x86_64 and arm64 builds and guides for Arch, Debian, Linux Mint Debian Edition and NixOS.
Check the Chromebook's board and bootloader support before installing. The README calls it beta software and says it can't boot ChromeOS itself. You need developer mode and external boot enabled with `enable_dev_usb_boot`, and developer mode erases local data.
Hardware support depends on the distro and kernel; the Linux audio fixes in this catalog are for x86 only.
