GrapheneOS
FirmwareA hardened Android with no Google services built in
GrapheneOS is a privacy- and security-focused version of Android for Pixels. It replaces the stock software and does not include Google Play services. The project builds and ships its own updates, and its FAQ lists official support for Pixel 6 and newer, including the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet.
You need a Pixel whose bootloader can be unlocked, a computer with a USB cable and a Chromium-based browser for the web installer. Unlocking the bootloader erases the phone. Verizon-sold Pixels can't unlock the bootloader. Other carrier-sold Pixels can be locked too, so check that OEM unlocking is available in Developer options before buying one.
- Use Android without Google's services
- Keep it updated after Google stops
- Automatic background updates from the project
- Runs with a locked bootloader after install
