Add local Wi-Fi control to an older Roomba
The OpenBeken Roomba driver adds a local web control panel and MQTT telemetry to older Roombas through their serial Open Interface. It supports cleaning, docking, spot cleaning and status sensors, and can expose a vacuum and sensors to Home Assistant, a system for home automation. The firmware runs on an added Wi-Fi module connected to the robot.
You need a supported module, power regulation, level shifting and serial wiring, then a build with the Roomba driver enabled. The author claims 500–800 series support, but this is an electronics project with model-dependent wiring. No iRobot account or cloud connection is needed for these controls.
