Brightness and volume for supported external monitors
MonitorControl is a menu bar app that sets an external display's brightness, contrast and volume, so the Mac's brightness and volume keys work on monitors from other makers. It uses DDC over USB-C, DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI or VGA, the native protocol for Apple and built-in displays, and software dimming for TVs and virtual screens.
The README says full functionality needs macOS 11 Big Sur or newer. DDC over the built-in HDMI port doesn't work on the 2018 Intel Mac mini, M1 Macs or the entry-level M2 Mac mini, and DisplayLink docks only get software dimming. On macOS Tahoe the native on-screen display shows no percentage.
