This Mac daemon keeps the default microphone capture session open so push-to-talk or dictation apps can start receiving audio without waiting for it to wake. It reads through the macOS capture system and immediately discards the samples.
A Bluetooth microphone kept open can hold AirPods in the lower-quality two-way audio profile. The microphone privacy indicator stays on, so use this when avoiding capture delay matters more than stereo playback quality.
