dumbTV
FirmwareSimplify Fire TV with cleanup and a custom home
dumbTV uses a computer's ADB connection to disable selected packages and install an optional simple home screen. Fire OS keeps ownership of Home; the app uses an accessibility or task-monitoring workaround.
Its optional personalDNSfilter layer blocks selected Amazon ad, telemetry and update hosts. That can reduce some reporting, but does not stop all tracking or remove YouTube video ads, and filtering can break apps.
You need a supported device profile, an authorized computer and a local-network connection. Results vary by firmware, and the filter also blocks OTA updates, including security updates.
- Remove ads from the home screen
- Limit viewing and app tracking
- Disable selected Alexa packages if chosen
- Inspect and restore recorded package states
- Use a simple app and input grid
